Monte

O Monte como típica propriedade do Alentejo em Portugal, tradicionalmente numa elevação que domina a planície circundante. Geralmente a elevação é um relevo residual de um inselberg ou monadnock: um kopje. Não sendo uma verdadeira planície mas uma peneplanície.
Existem no entanto algumas regiões com relevo mais movimentado que o normal para o Alentejo, devido às rochas mais resistentes. Independentemente da litologia dominante, de rochas como: granito; arenito, xisto, calcário ou o melhor mármore do mundo, a arquitectura e práticas culturais unificam o Alto e Baixo Alentejo numa global e consistente paisagem Mudjar-Romana-Lusa.

The Monte or "Hill" meaning a typical homestead in Portugal's Alentejo Province, tradicionaly on a hill, that dominates the surrounding plain. Usually the hill is a residual relief from an inselberg or monadnock that becamed a kopje making it not a true plain but a peneplain.
Some regions having more movimented relief than usual in Alentejo, with more resisting stones. Independent of the dominant litology of stones like: granite; sandstone; slate; schist; limestone or the best marble in the world, the architecture and cultural practices unifies the Upper and Lower Alentejo in consistent mudjar-romanic-lusitanic landscape whole.
